GUIDES / ADOBE INDESIGN
How to merge text frames in Adobe InDesign.
Merge separate text frames into one continuous story without losing the formatting you already have. InDesign calls them text frames, although they’re often referred to as text boxes.
01 / NATIVE INDESIGN
Merge a few text frames manually.
Click a frame’s out port, then click the next frame, so text flows as one story. Or copy and paste into a single frame. Both are fine for a handful of frames. Neither is a bulk merge of leftover boxes after a convert or a messy import.
02 / WHEN THAT ISN’T ENOUGH
Merge dozens of separate text frames.
A converted document, Data Merge output, an Excel-based workflow or a placed Word file can leave dozens of separate, unthreaded text frames. Threading them by hand is slow, and copy/paste can destroy the intended reading order.
03 / SIROKO LABS
Choose the frames, then link them.
Merge Text Frames links separate frames into one story. Lite does a straight top-to-bottom merge. Pro adds scope, filters, analysis, reading order, separators, presets and a single Undo for the whole operation.
