GUIDES / ADOBE INDESIGN
How to relink missing files in Adobe InDesign.
Restore broken links after files move, without clicking Relink on every image. Start with InDesign’s native Links panel for individual files or a single folder. For larger projects spread across folders and subfolders, a recursive relinking workflow can save the manual search.
01 / NATIVE INDESIGN
Use the Links panel first.
Open Window → Links. A missing file shows a stop icon. Select it, choose Relink from the panel menu, and pick the new file. If the same file is used more than once, Relink All Instances updates every copy. Relink to Folder can reconnect a whole set when the filenames still match and everything sits in one folder.
02 / WHEN THAT ISN’T ENOUGH
Relink missing files across folders and subfolders.
Relink to Folder does not search inside subfolders. After a project move, a rename, or a library with nested folders, you still work file by file. That is slow on a production document.
03 / SIROKO LABS
Scan once, preview, then apply.
Smart Relinker searches a folder including subfolders, matches by filename, and shows a plan before anything is applied. Lite covers straightforward missing-link recovery. Pro adds analysis, batch replace and prepress checks in the same workspace.
